Stitching it all together
~Craft Therapy~

Stitching it all together

This box of squares is the result of my coping through a difficult time
Now I am going to stitch it all together

Stitching it all together is about creating and growing.

AIM: My overall aim for this crafting therapy group, is to help people and boost their possibilities, but also to recycle and reuse as much as possible. The end aim is to be able to create crafts from what is around you, without the need of purchasing, where necessary. If you do need to purchase, to be able to gain what you don’t have from the other members in the group, thereby creating a community.

Crafting is good for so many reasons. I personally have found that by doing crafts I can deal with life’s challenges better, but also it is a great way to relax. The feeling you get upon completion of your creation is like no other. It's such a sense of achievement, facing the challenge and sticking to it, until it is complete.

The idea for craft therapy called stitching it all together came from me creating a lot of knitted squares when I was dealing with a difficult time in my life. I couldn't talk about it and I had difficulty expressing my feelings. Knitting kept me going and I was able to come through my difficult time. Now I have a box full of squares and I'm going to stitch them all together and make a blanket, to mend and heal and close off that time in my life.

I speak to many people who don't have a hobby or a passion that they can turn to in times of stress and just switch of from the world. I believe that through crafting it can help anyone, and like me you don't have to be a creative person, but just have the want to do it.

There are many benefits of people of all kinds coming together and crafting something. I would like to share this, and create the opportunity for everyone. Don't ever say you can't because I can assure you, I have seen many people create wonderful things who said they couldn't.

Believe in yourself and just try - enjoy it and grow.

It's a fun way to spend time, whether you do it for enjoyment of because you are dealing with a challenge.

"The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls."
